About this site, and about me

Lena HofstätterMountain walking guide — Garmisch-Partenkirchen

I am Lena Hofstätter. I guide walking groups out of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and I have taken people through the Partnachklamm in every month it opens, including several when it turned out not to be open. This site is the set of answers I got tired of giving twice a week at the bus stop.

Why I built it

The Partnachklamm is not complicated. It costs about ten euros for an adult at a hut by the entrance, it is run by the Gemeinde Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the only real planning problem is that there is no road to it: everyone walks the last 2.2 km up the valley from the Olympic ski stadium. Almost nothing written about it online says that plainly. What gets written instead is that you should book a tour, and the tours disagree with each other about whether the entry fee is in the price. So I read all sixteen listings and wrote down what each one says on which tours include the entry fee.

What I do here

I write the pages, I check the operator’s own site for the prices and the hours rather than repeating what other guides say, and where two sources disagree I put both on the page and say which one I follow. The operator publishes 08:00 to 20:00 in summer; other sources print different figures; I follow the people who sell the tickets. Everything on the tickets page and the hours page comes from that source.

I also say when something is contested, and when I do not know. Nobody publishes an official walking time for the 702 metres through the gorge, so this site does not invent one; it explains what the distances come to and calls that an estimate.

What I am not

I am not the operator and this site does not sell tickets to the gorge. Nobody does, online: the money is taken at the entrance, in person, on the day. If you want to know what the place actually is before you go, the long version is in the complete guide.

There is no photograph of me on this page

That is deliberate. A site whose argument is that you should check what the listings actually say has no business illustrating its author with a picture that was never taken. You get a monogram and a name instead, and everything else on the site is sourced so you can check it without needing to trust my face.

How the site pays for itself

Through GetYourGuide affiliate links. If you book a tour after clicking one, I earn a small commission and you pay exactly what you would have paid anyway. It does not change what I write: the most reviewed tour on this site does not go to the gorge and the page about it says so in bold. The full statement is on the affiliate disclosure.

Frequently asked questions

Who writes partnachgorge.com?

I do — Lena Hofstätter, a mountain walking guide based in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I have taken groups through the Partnachklamm in every month it opens, and the site is built out of the questions people ask me before they go.

Do you sell tickets to the Partnach Gorge?

No, and neither does anybody else online. The adult fee is taken at the hut at the entrance, in person, on the day. What I can tell you is which tours cover it and which do not.

Where do your figures come from?

The prices and hours come from the operator’s own site; the tour prices and ratings were read off GetYourGuide listings on 20 August 2026. Where sources disagree I print both and say which I follow — see the hours page.
